Interview with a Vampire

I really really enjoyed this story a lot. I couldn't put this one down, maybe because I'm a big fan of True Blood and this reminded me a lot of it. I liked how it was written though the sentences didn't drag on and were straight to the point. It was kind of ironic that someone who was so depressed and keen on giving up on life, instead was given the chance to become immortal, and as I continued reading I realized the HBO series was so strongly based off of this this book that it started bothering me I hadn't read this sooner. They both don't follow the usual vampire rumors, such as crucafixes and garlic, and laugh saying at those saying it's all BS. They both also drink a vampires blood to heal, become a vampire, and it gives them a drug-like high. Even Lestats description is very close to one of the shows characters. I suppose this is bound to happen though.
Lestat and Louis were so opposite as characters, that I'm glad they brought in a third party or else their story was becoming a little predictable, especially with how they handled the farm and it's slaves. Claudia's character I liked alot. There's nothing more bone chilling then trying to help a lost little girl in the street and only to have her mindlessly kill you, and even how the writer described that she played with her food to get treats that she wanted made me want to second guess the next time I find a lost child. Her relationship to Louis was hard for me to wrap my head around after a while. At first I read perceived it as a Father, Daughter, kind of role, but how he and Lestat treated her it was almost as is Louis took on the motherly type of roles, giving her love and affection, while Lestat would be the colder one and much more like a father who put his time into bringing her out to hunt. It was very tragic how she was growing up mentally but not physically. It's a bit of a disturbing thought, I would hate to stay at the age of 6 and never be taken seriously even though I had the mind of a forty year old. That would drive me mad it would atleast be better if she were closer to twenty, and her Father, Daughter relationship she had with Louis started to make my stomach turn as I knew that she wasn't REALLY a little girl anymore. It just seemed wrong.

I didn't get to finish the whole thing, but definately plan on it.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

So I did not expect this to be at all like it was. It was very out there I liked it though because it made me laugh when you compare it to the real pride and prejadice. It makes me think of some Chinese or Anime movie to be with the women growing up with weapon training and the katanas and fighting off all the monsters. I didn't get to finish the whole thing but I enjoyed the parts I did get to. It started getting complicated into the relationships and I suppose I'm more interested in the Zombie parts rather then the romance storyline. It wasn't what I expected though that's for sure. I suppose I'm not the biggest zombie fan so to know of the romance in Pride and Prejudice and then to open this and read how it's known around England that the dead eat brains and constantly want more was amusing. I did really like that the girl was strong and able to take care of herself though, I'm not a big fan of the damsel in distress characters, and this one reminded me more of Kill Bill.

Frankenstein

I had heard good things about Frankenstein and after reading it I wasn't totally disappointed. The way movies have portrayed it these days it very far fetched from the book so I'm glad I wasn't able to predict everything that happened. Also when I think Frankenstein I think of the monster itself not of Dr. Frankenstein, so I liked that reading this clarafied that for me. What I really didn't like though was how the author rushed the middle of the story. She just threw in a simple solution for the monster to be able to communicate and talk and learn about life in what seemed like no time and it really took away from the believability as I was reading. I did like her style of writing though, especially for the time era she didn't really get ridiculously descriptive.
